Designing Your Christening Invitation

Claudia Forward - Wednesday, February 23, 2011
Creating a lovely christening invitation is a little more complicated than just adding a baby photo to one of our designs.  It's important that you select the right photo so that the final product will look wonderful.

This is an example of one of our most popular invitations.

Christening invitation

What makes this invitation look so good?

Firstly, have a look at the colours.  The colours in the design are matched to the colouring in the photos. The same gentle pink colour co-ordinates the image with the design on the invitation.

The second important element is the photo of your baby.  The best photo to use is one that has quite a plain background so that the focus is on your beautiful baby.  If you look at the invitation the first thing you will notice is the face of the child smiling out at you.  That is perfect.  If you looked at it and noticed the design before the photo it tells you that the design isn't balanced and you may have chosen the wrong photo to use.

Finally, take care with the clothing your child is photographed in.  Choose clothing that is fairly plain and is not in too many colours.  Ideally, the more simple the better result you will get.

Nwxt week we will give you a few tips on how to take the best photograph of your child.  Your christening invitations are going to look stunning!

Pirate Birthday Parties

Claudia Forward - Tuesday, January 18, 2011
Children's birthday parties are always fun but if you can build them around a theme they look so much more exciting.  It is not hard to develop a look for your theme especially when there are some excellent party supplies stores available online.

I decided to use 'pirate' as a theme for my party and went off to see what I could find.  These products are just some of the clever decorations that I found.

Pirate Themed Party Decorations
1.  Pirate Centrepiece from The Spotty Napkin
2.  Pirate Cupcake decorating set from The Spotty Napkin
3.  Pirate Pinata Pull from The Spotty Napkin
4.  Pirate Bunting from The Spotty Napkin
5.  Pirate Foil Balloon from Speckled Freckle
6.  Treasure Chest Party Box from Speckled Freckle
7. Buried Treasure Napkins from Speckled Freckle

and then there's the cake..... Perhaps something like Captain Jack here?  This gorgeous cake is from Sweetcheeks Cookies and Cakes

Now do you see what I mean when I say that a theme gives added excitement to an occasion?   It's a lot of fun to put together, too.

Include Kids Artwork in your Photobook

Claudia Forward - Wednesday, September 22, 2010
There is so much love and creativity in a child's drawing. With so many beautiful pieces of artwork, they are often not enjoyed as much as they could be. As you know I am currently designing a our 2009 summary photobook. Just when I was finished, I realised that I was missing a major part of the year (oh joy!) - the kids drawings. Out came the memorabelia boxes - which is not that organised - luckily most drawings had dates, so it was pretty easy to select them.

From experience, I will now recommend the following:
  • Photograph of your childs artwork as you receive it;
  • Create a folder on your PC called "Kids Artwork"
  • Within the folder, create year folders, and then sub folders for each child;
  • Save the artwork in the correct folder.
The whole folder thing may sound a little complicated, but it only needs to be set up once, and then you know exactly where they all are.

NEW Product: Personalised Football Cards

Claudia Forward - Friday, August 27, 2010

Our 5 year old is rather passionate about his football (and vocal) and is completely infatuated with his football cards. With his first year of soccer coming to an end, we thought the kids would love a set of their own footy cards (well soccer…) of their team. What a hit! We could not have pre-empted how much they loved them – seeing an action shot of themselves with some inspiring words and statistics was fantastic.

The coach presented each player with their personalised set of soccer cards, by reading out the words on the cards… the proud look on their faces as their parents and team mates heard their words was priceless.

What we didn’t realise was the impact of the award each of them received. – Best Team Player of the Year – Toughest Player of the Year etc. Each of them remember what the other received, what a great way to give them positive reinforcement.

Of course the grandparents and the parents can’t miss out, so we included an extra one for each of them.

Here is my little man!

If you are interested in cards for your team or club, be it for Baseball, Cricket or Football, please contact us and we will send you a little more information.

Hair and Beauty Birthday Party

Claudia Forward - Wednesday, August 11, 2010

A last minute birthday party idea, turned into one of the best parties we have had for our 4 year old little princess. Arianne, is a girly girl – dress ups, make up, dolls, dancing – anything girly. So we decided to make it a hair and make up party. We hired a hair dresser to do the hair, and then a couple of mums did their nails and make up. What a success! The girls had a ball – the grins and the excitement on their precious little faces were gorgeous.

Below is the thank you card we sent out - don't all the girls look gorgeous!
