RSVP Etiquette

Claudia Forward - Wednesday, September 01, 2010

You've received a wedding invitation or birthday invitation, and it just sits on your kitchen bench. Did you know that the person sending it out is awaiting your reply? Not only to confirm the guest list, but also in recognition of their wedding, event, or invitation. If you have received a wedding invitation, and cannot make it, the bride and groom may have others on their reserve list - it is only polite to let them know straight away.

Wedding Invitation - RSVP Postcard

  1. RSVP as soon as you know you can or cannot make a wedding or party - just as you would want others to do. As mentioned previously, there may be others they will invite, as a result.

  2. Respond by the date specified or preferably beforehand. The RSVP date is there for the hosts to prepare, particularly if it is a more formal function like a wedding, where catering and seating arrangements need to be made. It reduces the stress on the bride and groom immensely if they don't need to chase after rsvp's.

  3. If you have previously said you are able to attend an event, and now can't - pick up the phone and let them know. Your call will be appreciated.

  4. A wedding invitation that has been addressed to you and does not have 'partner', 'guest' or your children written on it, means that it is only you that has been invited. That said, if it is a kids party or christening invitation, and your children aren't on it, this may have been an oversight, so ask.

  5. If there is no name on the wedding invitation, look on the envelope, this may indicate who is invited, e.g. family, or just yourself. Still unsure? Just ask!

Real Weddings: Funky and Modern

Claudia Forward - Tuesday, August 24, 2010
One of my favourite wedding trends is when the couple fills the day with details that truly represents them as a couple and their personality. This is exactly what todays charismatic couple have done for their wedding vow renewals that screams trend and glamour. Having been married on 15th August 2009 in the States, they decided to also celebrate with family and friends in Australia.

The bride looked elegant and chic in her wedding dress - I love the black sash and peacock feather in her hair! Just stunning.

One of my favourite Sydney photographers, Tanya from Tindale Images, has captured the day beautifully.

The bride had a love for vintage cameras - my kind of girl!

The ever talented groom, mixed a dance track of "Here comes the Bride" and the Bride is a Shoe Designer, which was playing as the guests arrived.

Their service was at the charming Nurse Chapel at Little Bay.

Their reception was held at the Winery, a funky and quirky little restaurant in Surry Hills. Aren't the colours just gorgeous!

Engagement: Amazing Race - Stewart and Monique

Claudia Forward - Thursday, July 22, 2010
How beautiful is today's story? I am a bit of a romantic, and Stewart and Monique's engagement proposal really had me gushing.

The story began at Monique's 30th Birthday, where Stewart had organised an Amazing Race to do around Perth. Over the two days, there were challenges, 'road blocks' and 'fast forwards' with family and friends at each stage. The final clue was a suitcase, half packed with a towel and sunscreen. There were only generic photos of a destination, Monique was to pack. It wasn't until her parents came to collect her, that they advised Monique to pack for 5 days and grab her passport.

Monique recounts: "Stewart had organised everything, work, their dog and even checked my passport. I arrived at Perth airport to find my lovely man there waiting with our tickets - where to?.. Vanuatu - I nearly died! I would never have guessed in my wildest dreams of such an exotic location!"

The photos that you see below are the photos taken at the exact moment Stewart proposed to Monique, at Male Waterfalls, Vanuatu.

These photos were then used to create their engagement invitation - what a precious memory!

So boys, does this give you a few ideas?

Real Weddings - Claudia & Rod - Fairytale Romance

Claudia Forward - Tuesday, July 06, 2010
I am excited to start a regular blog where we will be featuring real life weddings. What better place to start than with my own wedding.

Rod and I were married on 6th April 2002. It was a glorious day, but not without any hiccups!

Suffice to say, that panic buttons were hit when 3 months prior to our wedding the magnificent grounds at The Turpentine Tree in the Blue Mountains were privy to a roaring bush fire. With a potential unleashing of bridezilla, we quickly changed our wedding from a romantic garden wedding to a Fairytale Dream Wedding at the Gap Bluff Centre in Watsons Bay, Sydney. Overlooking Sydney Harbour, the room provided a blank canvas for renowned florist Gerhard Haas from The Turpentine Tree to work his magic.

"We didn't have the option to deliberate over choices, which made planning so much easier. I don't regret a thing, and we ended up having our daughter's Christening at The Turpentine Tree, so my dream was realised!"

The photographers from Captured Memories tried painstakingly to take a serious photograph of me. How I was going to stop smiling was beyond me. The above photo is the result - there's no hiding the eyes!

"I always thought the day was about the two of us, but when Claudia walked down the aisle, I knew differently" says Rod.

I was on cloud nine - and then we arrived at the St Mary Magdalene Church, Rose Bay. I was not prepared for the amount of emotion that came over me. I can honestly say, that had the wedding ended after the ceremony, I would have been completely satisfied. Now there is another story that goes with that, but I think I will keep it to myself at this point. I'll need to gain some dutch courage - or perhaps drink some Dare milk.

Our bridesmaid dresses were an electric blue - the girls carried long hot pink flowers. The colour looked stunning against the perfect blue sky.

The colours used in the reception were soft pastel. The flowers were simply breathtaking. One of the things that I loved was the line of candles on the driveway leading you to the venue (approximately 400 candles). It tooks some helping hands!

A fabulous day, that will always be remembered with the most fondest of memories.

Thanks for sharing our special day with me - it has been wonderful reminiscing.
